Essay
Unproven technology and tradeoffs.
September 19, 2026 1 min read
A man came to me recently with an ambitious piece of technology that needed a lot of investment and support. His main pitch was that it would be advantageous for the country and the economy.
He was right. It would be. But it would take atleast 20 to 40 years to do so and would need an enormous amount of resources. This tradeoff is something that wealthy countries can do: invest in the far off future on technologies that are yet untested and unproven.
Bangladesh suffers from a lack of time and a serious constraint of resources that needs to be addressed immediately. We do not have the luxury of investing in something that will take years to pay off while also being something that might pay off or not.
